Logical Tricks

Logical Tricks, or "tricks" as they are commonly referred to, are options available to the player to add a layer of complexity to seeds. Note: Tricks are not necessarily the same as glitches. while there is some debate as to what entails a "trick" vs a glitch, we try to keep tricks defined down to "an alternative method to achieve a goal that does not rely on a glitch.".

For example:

• Using a LJA to reach the Bridge of Eldin Owl Statue Chest = Glitch
• Using Wolf Link to climb on the railing to make a precise jump to the ledge = Trick.

Below is a list of currently implemented tricks and some explanations/resources to help players better understand what logic a trick affects and how they can be successfully performed.

General Tricks

• Destroy Webs With Bombs and Ball and Chain
  • In the vanilla game, you can use Bombs or the Ball and Chain to destroy webs.
• Use Bombs and Boomerang To Destroy Out of Reach Rocks
  • The Boomerang can be used in place of the Bow to carry bombs to places that are normally unreachable. Examples of this include, but are not limited to: the rock blocking the Kakariko Village Bomb Rock Spire Heart Piece, the rocks leading up to the Bridge of Hylia Ledge Poe and the Stalactites hanging in the Lakebed Temple.
• Grab Freestanding Items With Ball and Chain
  • The Ball and Chain can be used to obtain certain freestanding items (heart pieces and golden bugs.) Note: this does not work for rupee checks.
• Drained Magic Armor As A Substitution for Iron Boots
  • Drained Magic Armor allows the player to sink underwater and perform many tasks without the need for Iron Boots. Note that there are two exceptions to this: You MUST have Iron Boots to defeat Gor Coron in Wrestling and to get the check from the Underwater Goron in Zora's Domain.
• Defeat Shadow Beasts Without MDH
  • It's possible to defeat Shadow Beasts as Wolf without Midna on your back but it requires a specific setup to perform. Details can be found here: https://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/tp/msb/steal-the-lent-bomb-bag#as-wolf

Faron Province Tricks

• Faron Mist Stump Chest as Wolf
  • After using Midna to jump to the central tree with the poe, you can climb on the wall on the south side and walk along it to reach the ledge with the chest.
• Baba Serpent Grotto With Wolf
  • The hanging Baba Serpent can be lured into over extending its bite, making it vulnerable to a quickly timed Midna Charge to cut it's stem.

Eldin Province Tricks

• Death Mountain Geysers Shield Skip
  • The Geysers leading up to the Sumo Hall can be skipped by L-Targeting with a Shield and side hopping
• Death Mountain Climb Without Irons
  • If you get hit by the Gorons a specific way, you will be knocked back into the wall instead of knocked back down the mountain.
• Eldin Lava Cave Upper Chest With Nothing
  • From the top level, you can jump down to the ledge with the Upper Chest by jumping up and to the left.
• Eldin Lava Cave Wolf Jump To Bottom
  • From the top level with a set up, wolf link can jump down to the bottom ledge without taking damage.
• Kakariko Village Watchtower Alcove Chest as Wolf
  • After climbing to the top of the watchtower, a precise jump can be made to reach the chest.
• Kakariko Village Bomb Rock Spire Heart With Epona And Claw
  • After destroying the boulder blocking the check, it can be obtained by getting on Epona and using the Clawshot from a close distance.
• Kakariko Village Bomb Rock Spire Heart with Boomerang
  • With a precise Boomerang throw, it is possible to get the check with only the Boomerang.
• Kakariko Gorge Double Clawshot Chest As Wolf
  • Using a specific setup, Wolf Link can just barely jump to the ledge with the vines.
• Hidden Village Checks Without Clawshot
  • With good timing and accuracy, Wolf Link can be used to jump across the balconies in the village to talk to all cats and to reach the Poe.

Lanayru Province Tricks

• Helmasaur Grotto With Only Clawshot
  • While painful and tricky, it is possible to defeat all of the Helmasaurs by using the Clawshot to remove their shells and then picking them up and throwing them at the Helmasaurs.
• Iza's Helping Hand With Boomerang
  • A precise Boomerang throw can be used to destroy the rock wall blocking the river. (Luckily, Iza provides infinite bombs.)
• Underwater Goron Without Zora Armor
  • The Underwater Goron can be obtained with Water Bombs and Iron Boots, but you may drown before you can reach the surface.
• Zoras Domain Underwater Rupees Without Zora Armor
  • The rupees can be obtained with Iron Boots (or Magic Armor if the trick is enabled), but you may drown before you can reach the surface.
• Lake Lantern Cave Without Lantern
  • While it may be hard for some to see, the Lake Lantern Cave (with the exception of the torch chests) can be completed without the use of the lantern.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest With Wolf
  • The chest can be reached with a precise jump with Wolf Link.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest With Sword
  • The chest can be reached with a well-timed mid-air jump slash.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest With Irons
  • The chest can be reached with a precise jump with the Iron Boots.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest Itemless
  • The chest can be reached with a precise jump without any items.
• Outside Castle Town South Fountain Chest With Sword + Back Slice
  • The check can be reached by doing a back slice to get onto the railing, followed by a well-timed mid-air jump attack to reach the ledge with the Chest.
• Shell Blade Grotto With Normal Bombs
  • Unbeknownst to many players, Shell Blades can be defeated by feeding them a water bomb, causing them to explode. Due to an oversight in their programming, you can stand on the ledge above them, hold out a bomb, and they will eat it out of your hand, defeating them without the need to use water bombs or going underwater.
