Logical Tricks

Logical Tricks, or "tricks" as they are commonly referred to, are options available to the player to add a layer of complexity to seeds. Note: Tricks are not necessarily the same as glitches. while there is some debate as to what entails a "trick" vs a glitch, we try to keep tricks defined down to "an alternative method to achieve a goal that does not rely on a glitch.".

For example:

• Using a LJA to reach the Bridge of Eldin Owl Statue Chest = Glitch
• Using Wolf Link to climb on the railing to make a precise jump to the ledge = Trick.

Below is a list of currently implemented tricks and some explanations/resources to help players better understand what logic a trick affects and how they can be successfully performed.

General Tricks

• Destroy Webs With Bombs and Ball and Chain
  • In the vanilla game, you can use Bombs or the Ball and Chain to destroy webs.
• Use Bombs and Boomerang To Destroy Out of Reach Rocks
  • The Boomerang can be used in place of the Bow to carry bombs to places that are normally unreachable. Examples of this include, but are not limited to: the rock blocking the Kakariko Village Bomb Rock Spire Heart Piece, the rocks leading up to the Bridge of Hylia Ledge Poe and the Stalactites hanging in the Lakebed Temple.
• Grab Freestanding Items With Ball and Chain
  • The Ball and Chain can be used to obtain certain freestanding items (heart pieces and golden bugs.) Note: this does not work for rupee checks.
• Drained Magic Armor As A Substitution for Iron Boots
  • Drained Magic Armor allows the player to sink underwater and perform many tasks without the need for Iron Boots. Note that there are two exceptions to this: You MUST have Iron Boots to defeat Gor Coron in Wrestling and to get the check from the Underwater Goron in Zora's Domain.
• Defeat Shadow Beasts Without MDH
  • It's possible to defeat Shadow Beasts as Wolf without Midna on your back but it requires a specific setup to perform. Details can be found here: https://www.zeldaspeedruns.com/tp/msb/steal-the-lent-bomb-bag#as-wolf

Faron Province Tricks

• Faron Mist Stump Chest as Wolf
  • After using Midna to jump to the central tree with the poe, you can climb on the wall on the south side and walk along it to reach the ledge with the chest.
• Baba Serpent Grotto With Wolf
  • The hanging Baba Serpent can be lured into over extending its bite, making it vulnerable to a quickly timed Midna Charge to cut it's stem.

Eldin Province Tricks

• Death Mountain Geysers Shield Skip
  • The Geysers leading up to the Sumo Hall can be skipped by L-Targeting with a Shield and side hopping
• Death Mountain Climb Without Irons
  • If you get hit by the Gorons a specific way, you will be knocked back into the wall instead of knocked back down the mountain.
• Eldin Lava Cave Upper Chest With Nothing
  • From the top level, you can jump down to the ledge with the Upper Chest by jumping up and to the left.
• Eldin Lava Cave Wolf Jump To Bottom
  • From the top level with a set up, wolf link can jump down to the bottom ledge without taking damage.
• Kakariko Village Watchtower Alcove Chest as Wolf
  • After climbing to the top of the watchtower, a precise jump can be made to reach the chest.
• Kakariko Village Bomb Rock Spire Heart With Epona And Claw
  • After destroying the boulder blocking the check, it can be obtained by getting on Epona and using the Clawshot from a close distance.
• Kakariko Village Bomb Rock Spire Heart with Boomerang
  • With a precise Boomerang throw, it is possible to get the check with only the Boomerang.
• Kakariko Gorge Double Clawshot Chest As Wolf
  • Using a specific setup, Wolf Link can just barely jump to the ledge with the vines.
• Hidden Village Checks Without Clawshot
  • With good timing and accuracy, Wolf Link can be used to jump across the balconies in the village to talk to all cats and to reach the Poe.

Lanayru Province Tricks

• Helmasaur Grotto With Only Clawshot
  • While painful and tricky, it is possible to defeat all of the Helmasaurs by using the Clawshot to remove their shells and then picking them up and throwing them at the Helmasaurs.
• Iza's Helping Hand With Boomerang
  • A precise Boomerang throw can be used to destroy the rock wall blocking the river. (Luckily, Iza provides infinite bombs.)
• Underwater Goron Without Zora Armor
  • The Underwater Goron can be obtained with Water Bombs and Iron Boots, but you may drown before you can reach the surface.
• Zoras Domain Underwater Rupees Without Zora Armor
  • The rupees can be obtained with Iron Boots (or Magic Armor if the trick is enabled), but you may drown before you can reach the surface.
• Lake Lantern Cave Without Lantern
  • While it may be hard for some to see, the Lake Lantern Cave (with the exception of the torch chests) can be completed without the use of the lantern.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest With Wolf
  • The chest can be reached with a precise jump with Wolf Link.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest With Sword
  • The chest can be reached with a well-timed mid-air jump slash.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest With Irons
  • The chest can be reached with a precise jump with the Iron Boots.
• Outside Castle Town South Double Claw Chest Itemless
  • The chest can be reached with a precise jump without any items.
• Outside Castle Town South Fountain Chest With Sword + Back Slice
  • The check can be reached by doing a back slice to get onto the railing, followed by a well-timed mid-air jump attack to reach the ledge with the Chest.
• Shell Blade Grotto With Normal Bombs
  • Unbeknownst to many players, Shell Blades can be defeated by feeding them a water bomb, causing them to explode. Due to an oversight in their programming, you can stand on the ledge above them, hold out a bomb, and they will eat it out of your hand, defeating them without the need to use water bombs or going underwater.

• STAR 1 Without Clawshot
  • The STAR 1 Minigame can be completed without any items using a series of moderately precise movements.
• STAR 2 Without Double Clawshot
  • The STAR 2 Minigame can be completed with a single Clawshot and the Iron Boots (to make falling faster).
• Water Toadpoli Grotto With Wolf
  • The projectiles shot by the Toadpolis can be knocked back with a spin attack from Wolf Link.
• Zoras Domain Waterfall Ledge With Box and Sword
  • You can jump from the top of the Waterfall down to the east ledge with a chest by grabbing a box from the top, jumping, and doing a well-timed sword slash in mid air.
• Zoras Domain Waterfall Ledge With Spinner
  • You can jump from the top of the Waterfall down to the east ledge with a chest by riding the spinner off at a specific angle.
• Legendary Hylian Loach With Frog Lure
  • Glitchless logic expects the Sinking Lure to catch the Legendary Loach, but you can also complete Roll Goal 1-8 to earn the Frog Lure and can use that to catch the Loach.

Desert Province Tricks

• Bulblin Camp Boar With Irons
  • While painfully slow and tedious depending on your health, the roasted boar in the back of the camp can be destroyed by rolling into it with the Iron Boots.

Forest Temple Tricks

• Forest Temple Lobby Without Ranged Items
  • It is possible to defeat the Deku Baba and use its seed to defeat one of the Walltulas on the vines leading to the lobby.
• Forest Temple Lobby With Wolf
  • It is possible to defeat both Walltulas with Wolf Link and then climb the vines to the lobby.
• Forest Temple West Wing With Bombling
  • Using the Gale Boomerang, you can target the Bombling in the lower Lobby and use it to blow up the web leading to the West Wing of the dungeon.
• Forest Temple North Tile Worm Boost To Chest
  • If you approach the first Tile Worm from the left side and stand on it, it will launch you up to the chest.
• Forest Temple North Wing With Bomb Boosts
  • With a series of precise Bomb Boosts and Jump attacks, you can skip the Boomerang Requirement for the Windless Bridge Room.
• Forest Temple Ook Access With Midna
  • Talking to Midna in the right position allows Link to clip through the walls of the moving bridges as they rotate, allowing for Link to jump across to the next bridge.

Goron Mines Tricks

• Defeat Fyrus Without Sword
  • While tedious, Fyrus can be defeated using only Arrows.
• Defeat Fyrus Without Irons
  • If you shoot Fyrus in the head 10 times with arrows, he will fall down on his own.

Lakebed Temple Tricks

• Lakebed Temple Chandelier Drop
  • If you Clawshot up to the Chandelier, you can drop down to the Boss Door and the chest on the spire.
• Defeat Morpheel Without Sword
  • While difficult, you can defeat Morpheel using Water Bombs for Phase 1 and then continue to Phase 2 like normal (instead of stabbing the eye, Link kinda just punches it.)
• Lakebed Temple Big Key Chest Without Bombs
  • You can lure the Bombfish close to the bomb rock and then use the Clawshot to bring it close enough to destroy it.
• Lakebed Temple Big Key Skip
  • With precise positioning, it is possible to clip through the stairs and down into the chamber that leads to the Boss Room.

Arbiters Grounds Tricks

• Arbiters Grounds Pillar Jump
  • Using Wolf Link, it is possible to jump onto the buried pillar in the sand on the West Wing and then jump up to the ledge on the left chest. (In speedrunning, this is called Poe 1 Skip, but since this doesn't necessarily skip any poes in the rando, the naming is different.)
• Arbiters Grounds Big Key With Wolf
  • It is possible to clip between the Pillars and the wall near the sand whirlpool leading to the Big Key Chest.
• Arbiters Grounds Entrance Chain Without Clawshot
  • While mildly tedious, you can grab the chain and pull it back to the ledge and pull the chain without using the Clawshot.

Snowpeak Ruins Tricks

• Snowpeak Ruins Ladder Cancel
  • When climbing the ladder leading up to the Freezard blocking the Chapel, a frame perfect ladder drop allows you to skip the freezard. (Note: Since rando increases climbing speed, this trick is much easier than on vanilla.)
• Snowpeak Ruins Northeast Chandelier Chest With Back Slice
  • It's possible to reach the Northeast Second Floor Room by using Back Slice with a Sword instead of using the Clawshot on the targets.
• Snowpeak Ruins Lobby Chandelier Chest Without Wolf
  • The chest can be obtained with some quick thinking and movement, but keep an eye out for the Poe.

Temple of Time Tricks

• Temple of Time Crystal Switches With Clawshot
  • With specific positioning, it's possible to activate the crystal switches in the dungeon with the Clawshot.

City in the Sky Tricks

• City in the Sky Fan Skip
  • With certain positioning, you can open the door leading to the central fan room as Wolf Link and prevent the fan from activating. If you fail the trick, save warp or leave the dungeon to try again.
• City in the Sky Central Occa Room With No Items
  • You can use an Occa to fly to the central platform and then when jumping to the north platform, let go of the Occa while near the ledge to do a ledge grab and progress through the room.
• City in the Sky Entrance Crystal Switch With Ball and Chain
  • With specific positioning, the crystal switch can be activated with the Ball and Chain.
• City in the Sky East Wing First Room With No Items
  • Using momentum, the first two fans can be skipped by rolling through them. For the third fan, a precise series of rolls can be used to skip by the fan. Note: It is recommended to lure the Helmasaur onto the blue blocks to defeat them to have an easier time setting up your position.
• City in the Sky North Wing With Double Clawshots
  • Using a series of specific Clawshot shots, it is possible to reach the North Wing without activating the north fans.
• City in the Sky Dinalfos Room With Clawshot
  • Using the Clawshot, it is possible to cause both Dinalfos' to fall into the void and progress through the room.
• City in the Sky Central Outside Ledge Chest With Clawshot
  • If you stand in a specific place, you can Clawshot the vines near the chest and access it.
• City in the Sky Compass Chest With Double Clawshot
  • If you stand in a specific spot, it is possible to target and clawshot the targets on the bottom level and reach the chest.

Hyrule Castle Tricks

• Hyrule Castle Painting Switch With Bombs
  • A bomb can be either held or thrown at the painting and the explosion radius will trigger the switch
• Hyrule Castle Painting Switch With Jump Strike
  • Using the Jump Strike against the wall near the painting reaches just far enough to trigger the switch.
• Hyrule Castle Painting Switch With Back Slice
  • Using the Back Slice against the wall near the painting reaches just far enough to trigger the switch.
• Hyrule Castle Skip Main Hall Barrier
  • Using a jump attack and skipping the cutscene allows you to skip the fight arena in the Main Hall. Note: You will either need to defeat all of the enemies or light the Torches with the Lantern to spawn the chest.
• Hyrule Castle Chandeliers With Single Clawshot
  • By standing in a specific space on the railing, the northern chandelier can be reached with a single Clawshot.
• Hyrule Castle Tower Climb With Single Clawshot
  • By standing in a specific space on the lowest stairs and targeting the upper left target in the bottom left-most corner, you can Clawshot to it in a way that drops you on the stairs, allowing you to progress up the climb. Note: Mashing A to drop on the first possible frame greatly increases rate of success.
• Dark Beast Ganon Without Wolf
  • With a combination of Mortal Draw and Great Fairy Tears/Rare Chu Jelly, you can deal enough damage to defeat Dark Beast Ganon before he goes into the second half of the fight.
